Preparing for Our Next Chapter
Moving on from the Scully Estate
After 20 wonderful years at the Scully Estate in Islip, Seatuck will conclude its stewardship role at the historic property in the fall of 2026. The move is driven by a strategic decision to focus our efforts and resources on Seatuck’s continued growth as a regional conservation leader, increasing our impact as Long Island’s wildlife champion.
We are proud of our work with Suffolk County to secure the permanent preservation of the Scully Estate and to develop it into a cherished public resource as the Suffolk County Environmental Center. And we’re especially grateful for the opportunity to share the property and its diverse habitats and wildlife with so many visitors over the past two decades.
Going forward, Seatuck’s conservation efforts and educational programming will continue without interruption, and our commitment to conserving Long Island wildlife will remain unwavering. Seatuck staff will continue to work from our two other facilities, the South Shore Nature Center in East Islip and the new Coastal Restoration & Innovation Center in West Sayville
What Does this Transition Mean for Seatuck?
- Why is Seatuck leaving Scully?
- After 20 years at the Scully Estate, we’re making this transition to better align our space with our needs, and direct more time and resources toward our conservation work across Long Island. Shifting away from managing the property will allow us to focus even more on being Long Island’s wildlife champion, restoring habitats, and engaging our community.

- When is the move?
- Seatuck plans to fully transition out of the Scully Estate by the end of October 2026.

- What about Bats and Brews?
- Given the timing of our move, we will not be hosting Bats & Brews this year. And going forward, because the magic of the Scully Estate was such a central part of what made Bats & Brews so special, we don’t plan to try to recreate it at a new location. That said, we loved “Bats” and the wonderful community of nature lovers it brought together each fall, so we’re excited to reimagine a new annual event (and perhaps some smaller get-togethers) to gather our supporters. Stay tuned!

- Where will the work and programming that took place at Scully take place moving forward?
- Our conservation and education work will continue (and expand!) across Long Island, with our staff based at the South Shore Nature Center in East Islip and our new office and hatchery facility at the Coastal Restoration & Innovation Center in West Sayville. We will also increasingly host programs and events at partner sites and locations across the region.

- Which programs / events will change as a result of the move?
- Most of our core programs will continue, and in many cases, expand. Some events and programs, such as Bats & Brews, that were unique to the Scully Estate may be reimagined or relocated. We’ll share updates as plans are finalized.
