Sunday, August 1; 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Dragonfly Delight
*Suffolk County Environmental Center, Islip
Are you delighted by the thought of dragonflies? If so, you don't want to miss this excursion with Seatuck's Peter Walsh. With the aid of nets and jars, we'll seek out local dragonflies and learn some interesting facts and myths about these incredible insects. Program fee is $4 for members, $6 for non-members.

Sunday, August 8; noon to 2 p.m. Geology Bike Ride Caumsett State Park, Lloyd Harbor
Here's a chance to join Seatuck and Trips for Kids for a montain bike ride at the spectacular Caumsett State Park. We'll make several stops during the ride to explore the unique geology of the North Shore,. The distance and pace will depend on the attendees' experience, but expect to ride at least several miles. Bring your own bike (which must be in good working order) or Trips for Kids can provide you with a bike and helmet.

Friday, August 13; 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Family Night Hike Suffolk County Environmental Center
Join Seatuck for a night hike at the new environmental center. There are a number of nocturnal animals that can be heard (and sometimes seen!), as well as other fun nighttime observations. Bring the whole family for this quiet and relaxing evening exploration. Program fee is $4 for members, $6 for non-members. |
Sunday, August 15; 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Family Nature Art *Suffolk County Environmental Center, Islip Explore the natural world with your paintbrush, pencil, charcoal and imagination! Participants will be encouraged to carefully observe the wildlife and natural beauty of the 70-acre sanctuary and given a change to experience some new techniques. Some art supplies provided by student, call for supply list. Program fee $4 for members, $6 for non-members.

Saturday, August 21; 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Origami *Suffolk County Environmental Center, Islip Take a dip in the endless ocean of origami sea-life. Learn to fold simple fish, whales, sea-horses, claims and other assorted denizens of the deep from one square piece of dry paper. Program fee is $4 for members, $6 for non-members.

Join us for this high-tech treasure hunt, called geocaching, and we'll give you a crash course on how to use your GPS Unit to search for hidden containers using latitude and longitude coordinates. Geocaching is fun for the whole family and a great way to get outside and enjoy nature. Program fee is $4 for members, $6 for non-members.

Friday, September 10; 7:30 - 8:30 p.m. Bats in the Darkness *Suffolk County Environmental Center Join Seatuck for an evening adventure in search of bats. You'll gain a greater understanding and appreciation for these fascinating animals as we search the night sky for bats. We'll use a bat detector to listen for their echolocation calls as they fly above the environmental center.

Sunday, September 26; 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Seining for Tropical Fish Oak Beach Park, Babylon
Join Seatuck's Peter Walsh at Oak Beach Park, located along Ocean Parkway in Babylon, to learn about the Gulf Stream, the river of warm water that runs along our coast. Learn how it affects local air and water temperatures and participate in a hands-on activity using seine nets to catch small tropical fish that get trapped in the current. You'll have the opportunity see and hold some of the varied life found inside of one of Long Island's most dynamic ecosystems.
